  • Can be spread by viruses which are of different nature ie can be transmitted through faeco oral route and others through blood and body fluids.
  • Special tests to check for viruses.

Hepatitis – NASH
  • This is Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH)
  • Related to Diabetes Mellitus
  • Related to raised body mass index
Hepatitis – Alcohol
  • Excessive alcohol intake can cause this
  • Dose dependent as well as duration of intake is relevant.
  • Every individual is different. Do not think if one does not have liver damage after years of alcohol intake, you would be as lucky!
  • Most common cause of Cirrhosis (permanent liver damage) in USA.
Hepatitis – Drugs
  • Drug Induced Liver Injury (DILI)
  • From pain killers to antibiotics to oral contraceptives, many drugs are implicated
  • Herbal remedies and dietary supplements can also be as damaging
  • Beware : No drugs to be taken without a professional opinion and prescription!
    (even then there remains a danger and one should be vigilant!)

  • Lieshmaniasis
  • Entamoeba histolytica
  • Echinococcus granulosus (Hydatid Cyst)
  • Liver flukes

  • D – Diabetes and drugs (indiscriminate use of some)
